A woman’s career is not important as a man?
Hello Mam, I am a working mother of a 14-month-old. Today I came across a peculiar situation that has left me deeply hurt and made me question our Indian society.
Why is the mother only responsible to look after her child? Why is the husband only helping in looking after the baby? Why is a woman’s career not as important as a man’s? Why is DIL expected to take care of her in-laws like making tea for them early in the morning, cooking, etc.? Is being there for them not enough?
When a DIL is working, in-laws would say “you are working for yourself, is it helping us in any way?”, Would they say this to their son? Is it not whole family’s responsibility to manage all the household chores and look after the baby jointly when house-helps are on leave? Then why a DIL is told that why should we suffer because you are
working? Would they say this to their son? Why a DIL is always compared with their daughter?
If a woman can compete with a man in a career, then why it is only a woman’s responsibility to look after the house and the child? Mam, I request you to voice this out.
