“High BMI, changed doctor at 32 weeks, induced labour, almost lost to pain and vaginal delivery”

Hi Anu akka, I am your early pregnancy and labour management student. I am a chubby kid since birth and I was 88kg at the time of conception. I was excited about the pregnancy and wanted to have my husband near me during labour. Hence started searching for hospital which will allow my husband in Chennai and found one with famous doctor with almost 35 years of experience.

From the first visit she was so negative about my weight, that all my doctor visits were stressful as she was insisting that my weight is problem and you will deliver preterm and end up in c section. She pointed out that I was eating a lot and gaining weight every visit and I will end up with gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia.

Every time my blood work came normal, she was surprised that I didn’t have diabetes. The stressful visits resulted in increasing my blood pressure and I was 98 kg at 32 weeks and she suggested I get cardiologist as I might get heart attack. I panicked and decided to change my doctor. Honestly this was the best decision ever.

The doctor I changed, was very encouraging and motivated me to have positive thought about the delivery. Subsequently my BP was normal in all the further visits and she ensured that I stay positive and happy about my pregnancy and no worries on my weight.

My water level decreased at 38 weeks 3 days and doctor advised me to get admitted and I was induced on Feb 10th morning with gel. Pain started around 1 pm in the afternoon and contractions was intolerable around 5pm. I was given Entonox to distract from pain. My husband and my sister were there by my side helped me through the pain.

Breathing techniques and sipper bottle helped a lot. I was starting to get pushing sensation before baby crowing and I couldn’t help it. I almost lost hope as my dilation was slow and pain was intolerable. I gave up but my doctor and my prince didn’t.

I lost my hope and asked for a c-section to the doctor but she was not ready as I was progressing and baby’s heart beat was good and showed no signs of distress. I was so exhausted from the pain that doctor decided to try with the help of forceps. With all the motivation from my doctor I delivered my prince at 9.23 PM on 10th February.

Just wanted to let people know that I was 105 kg when I delivered and if you feel doctor is not comfortable you have every right to change.
