Surprised, I was 3cm dilated but had no pains
#VrikshamBirthStory
I’m your labour management & breastfeeding class student from Malaysia. On 21st Dec we were blessed with a baby boy via vaginal birth.
Our birth story as follows:
I was due on the 20th Dec but I had almost no symptoms of delivery till then despite many people who kept telling me that I would deliver before my due date especially since it was a boy & its a norm dats baby boy would be born anytime around week 36-38. Nevertheless, thanks to all the knowledge that you have instilled during our class, I trusted my body & spoke to my baby to tell him that He can come out when He is ready.
The morning of my due date, we had a check up with my gynae & we were surprised to know that I was already 3cm dilated but still had no pains. My gynae was very supportive & told us we could wait for another couple of days. We stayed calm & went along with our daily routine. That evening itself I started to experience cramps & within a few hours had mild contractions. My gynae had earlier advised us to follow the 10-1-1 rule & as your advise we started timing our contractions & towards that night we decided to move to the hospital.
We got admitted & did our swab test as per the hospital’s SOP for Covid. I was then taken to the labour ward & my midwife checked & confirmed I was in labour. I felt blessed to have my husband at my side during the whole course of labour. He held my hand & massaged me each time I was having contractions. We followed your breathing techniques, hot water bag & the sipper bottle which were all a savior. We owe that to you.
I was very determined to not take any form of pain relief but looking at how intense & fast my contractions were our midwife insisted to go on entonox gas. So, I was given the gas & the side effect was I felt as if I was hallucinating. The next thing I know was I saw my gynae in front of me ready to deliver my baby. Then the climax, the hardest thing was to fight the hallucination & concentrate on pushing during my contractions. With all the strength I had & faith in myself I fought through to keep myself awake & focused & with 3 strong pushes my baby boy was born.
It was a magnificent experience for me & my husband to be able to believe in my body & keep going despite the fast intense progression of contractions. I followed all ur exercises & stayed active during my pregnancy. i must say all the hard work paid off. It was all only possible with all the knowledge you have bestowed upon us akka. Thank you Anu ka!
With loads love, Nisha
