#VrikshamBirthStory

Hi anu ka,

This is Nivetha from canada. I was your early pregnancy and labor management class student. I gave birth to a healthy baby boy on October 28th weighed 2.5 kg

My pregnancy journey was a rollercoaster. My husband and myself were both in Canada and due to covid restrictions we couldn’t able to bring any of our parents.

Throughout my pregnancy I was vomiting and nauseated 24×7 .and I had no idea how a pregnancy would be like what to do and what not to do as I have lost my mother during giving birth to me.

The only support I had throughout my pregnancy is my husband who is taken care of me more than anyone. with his support and encouragement, I was trying to be more active by doing exercises taught by you.

My delivery date was November 14 but I have lost my mucus plug around 37th week on October 26th 2 am and then we informed it to the midwife around 4am. She asked us to wait and let her know if I get any contractions and time it.

I was started getting contractions around 6 am and we started to time it. The contractions were on and off for irregular intervals and I was following Ur breathing techniques whenever I was having a contraction and it helping me.

My husband made sure I was hydrated, calm and relaxed and my midwife came around 8 pm and checked and told that I was 50%effaced and 1 cm dilated. so she said it will take time to go into labor.

And is started doing squats and birthing ball exercises taught by you and my contractions were started to getting strong. During my contractions the only thing kept me sane was ur breathing techniques and my husband was keep on massaging me with the heating bag. As we were timing the contractions it was getting closer and stronger and I couldn’t able to bear the pain anymore. So, my husband called the midwife and told her that we will reach the hospital on 26th October 1 am.

When I reached the hospital, my midwife said that I was 4 cm dilated and 100%effaced and we were taken to the labor room. My contractions were getting more stronger and i was so tired for the past 2 days I couldn’t able to tolerate the pain so I was asking for an epidural at that point I was 6 cm dilated. Once I had the epidural, they started monitoring the heart rate of the baby as it was going down and I was panicked and my husband told me to relax a calm as after few minutes it got stabilized.

Around 12pm i was 10 cm dilated and asked to push. I was pushing till 1.30 pm and my midwife tried every technique to help me as she said my cervix is so small, I can’t deliver the baby vaginally so she suggested to have c section. I was devasted hearing that telling them i can do it vaginally, but everyone in the room were losing hope and suggested me to go for c section.

The only one person in the room that supported me is my husband and told me that it is my decision and if I think I can do it we will try for some time. He was having more confident than me and whenever I lost hope, he was the one telling me I can do it.

As you said to trust your body. he was also kept on reminding me that. So, the doctor suggested we could do a forceps intervention and try. So, we did try and with 3 pushes and an episiotomy with third degree tear around 2. 09 pm I was a proud mom of a beautiful and healthy baby boy 🥰.

I am so thankful for you ka for the breathing techniques that you taught which was a life saver throughout my labor.
