VBAC story from the desk of a dad of two
#vrikshambirthstory
Hi Sister, I am Ashok and my wife Adhithya attended your labor management class.
Coming to our birth story, we were trying for a VBAC after the C section for our elder one. From day 1, my wife has been active doing all the exercises and the workouts consistently. And your class motivated her a lot after which she believed completely that VBAC is possible with proper techniques and routines and she also put in her 100% effort for the same.
In her 40 th week, she didn’t get the labor pain and in our usual checkup doctor said she is 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated which was the same a couple of weeks back too. She was bit upset as her effort was considered to be in vain without any progress in dilation. But we didn’t loose hope and she continued to put in her efforts without expecting the outcome.
Three days after, she was in pain. Pain was intense and lasted for 30 seconds in the morning and in the night it was even more intense and lasted for more than a min. We then decided to go to the hospital. In the hospital triage room, they checked the cervix and it’s still the same 1 cm dilation. We didn’t have any clue then why there is so much pain without any progress. Dr then said let’s wait for 1 hr and if there is no progress we have to go back home.
She didn’t loose hope and requested the birth ball and started doing the exercise. In that moment, she is the most strongest person I have ever seen. Right before the dr came back to check her, the water broke. They checked her and now 3-4 cm dilated. Then they took us to the labor room.
In the labor room, the contractions were getting intense and she was in so much pain. Thanks to your breathing techniques which was a great relief that moment. Then the baby heartbeat started going down during the contractions. Doctors tried changing different positions but nothing helped much. So they decided we might have to go for C section if this continues. My wife then requested doctor 1 more hour to monitor and if the situation is same, we can go for C section. That very moment, we talked to the baby requesting her help as this is the one thing for which she had put in lot of hard works and efforts. Then the miracle happened, heartbeat started to be consistent and the dilation was 5 cm.
Then Dr agreed to wait for some more time but there is no progress in the dilation. Again we spoke to baby and asked her to come out safe soon please. She did the miracle again. The dilation was progressing faster and she was quickly 10 cm dilated. We ensured to follow your breathing techniques throughout.
After 6 hrs of labor, our princess has arrived in one hard push. I couldn’t control the tears looking at my wife’s successful VBAC. She believed she could so she did.
Few important things I realized through our experience,
- Trust in your baby and talk to them even at the toughest moment. Mom and baby has that super power and bonding.
- Trust your mother’s instinct and put in your efforts without expecting the outcome. Miracles do happen.
- Your classes are awesome, honestly I thought what is there for someone to teach about labor but I am glad that I am wrong as I could see the effects of your breathing techniques right in front of my eyes.
We have been often criticized as the second baby is also a girl. But I am happy and proud to be a dad of two awesome girls as they have the best mom to look up to and women are nothing less compared to men. In fact, I can advocate they are even more stronger after witnessing the labor.
Thank you Sister!
