“You are a girl, so you cannot do it”
#voicethiout
Hi Anu akka,
I am a married woman. I lost my father a year ago. Today is my father’s death anniversary. I was occupied and I couldn’t go to my parent’s house. I wanted to show some tribute to him, so I decided to donate some food packets to beggars. My husband and I went and gave it.
After that my mother-in-law, and sister-in-law got angry and scolded us. They asked me, “How can you guys do this? You are a girl and you have come to another house, you cannot do this”. “Your brother only has to do these things!”, they said.
Why are girls told like this? Why do we have to change everything about our parents and feeling towards them if our surname changes? why can’t a girl show tribute to her parents after their death?
Can you please voice out this? Maybe we can see some change in society.
