Hi Anu akka, I would like to share my journey through labour. I will be glad if this will be of help to anyone.

I was very active all through my pregnancy journey of 9 months. I have done exercises and kept myself active every day. My due date was given on 22nd May. Although I have got many Braxton hicks, I haven’t got any real labour pains till the 21st of May.

I got myself admitted to the hospital for induced labour on 21st May. In my first check in the hospital, I was told that I am 2cm dilated before the induction started. So, the duty doctor has done membrane stripping so that the labour pains can get intense and increase dilation. After a few hours at 11 pm another duty doctor checked and dilation is still at 2cm. So, the doctor induced the labour by applying the gel. The pain got a little intense and I started doing breathing exercises.

All night I was going through a lot of pain and the next morning I was expecting to get dilated better. At 10:30 am doctor checked and my dilation is at 3cm. I have lost hope thinking that I have bared a lot of pain all night and my dilation is still at 3cm and there is a long way to go. I asked for the epidural. At around 12:30 pm I was given an epidural and I relaxed all afternoon. And suddenly my pain got very intense that it surpassed the epidural and I could feel a lot of pain even after having epidural medicine going in.

At 8 pm doctor checked and said I was 6cm dilated. My pains got more intense and I was asking for the doctor to check my dilation every hour. At around 12 am on 23rd May, I was 10cm dilated and the doctor asked me to push. I have tried pushing so much and the baby has entered the birth canal and I need to give one good push for the baby to come out.

I tried and tried for the next 2 hours and had no luck. The duty doctor was worried the baby got stuck in the birth canal and suggested the c-section. In all that pain I have said yes to c-section as I wanted this pain to end sooner. I was given more epidural to prepare for a c section and I slept for a while till they prepared the OT.

Meanwhile, the duty doctor called the senior doctor to inform about my situation of going for the c section. The senior doctor said no and said she will be there at the hospital in a few minutes and shouldn’t proceed with the c-section.

After a few minutes when I opened my eyes I saw the senior doctor in front asking me to push again as she doesn’t want me to go for the c-section. I have tried again and still, the baby hasn’t come out. And finally, the duty doctor has given a hard push on my stomach and the senior doctor has done episiotomy and my baby is out. That cry of the baby wiped out all the pain in a second and I was very happy that I have got a beautiful baby girl into this world.

Thank you for spreading awareness among many women out there.

Regards,
Harika
